Incorporating a page on your website that does nothing but lead to the main website is unnecessary and bad for good rankings.
Splash pages can be aesthetically pleasing but they are not very helpful when trying to place your site in the search engines. Generally, splash pages are graphics heavy and light on content making it difficult for search engines to crawl. Search engine spiders are looking for links and plain text to evaluate. If your website has a splash page with no search engine visible content you are basically telling the search engines that there is nothing for them to see in your site. You are also stealing precious seconds from your visitors who often will surf away before finding what they were looking for, and will go to a different site that clearly presents information they were specifically looking for. |
