| its a wild one, esmerelda its called. Looks like many missing pages and missing backlinks. It appears that sites recently added to the database are still hurting, while sites that have been around for more than 2 years are relatively unaffected. |

A wild one it was! I hope your sites are doing well in this latest update!
Some recent changes you can now see...
Lot's of backlinks removed (non-relative mainly) and many folks will see less than before, though they are there and will come back soon; as some of the "newer" sites with recently added links pages, renamed pages, and not-so frequently spidered pages have all pretty much been PR0d. Not to panic... this will balance out and these pages will get spidered and assigned a PR in due time.
Speaking of PR, wow, it's not so important anymore!
The links still are important definitely, keep em relative and keep building them. As long as you link to related sites you WILL get benefit regardless of PR.
Why do I say not so important now?
Well, it seems now that PR has slipped as a top factor when it comes to placement and stuff like optimization and keywords/keyword placement are beating out PR when it comes to placement.
Don't discount it entirely, but you can find quite a few sites in top 5 spots in Google that have HORRIBLE PR whereas sites doing worse in placement have MUCH higher PR... they're doing this with keyword rich content. As you've heard, I'm sure, content is king!
So get your keyword rich text and your relative links and don't exclude sites based on PR, or lack there of...
best,
john

| Yes, 7th, PageRank seems to be less favored as time goes on. Another change appears to be Googles treatment of links. Incoming links cant hurt you (99% of the time according to GoogleGuy) but links from irrelevant sites may not boost your ranking at all. So having 100 incoming links to your asphalt company from a site that sells TP may have 0 effect. |
