The things you need to do to achieve good placement in search engines:

Use it in the title tags
use the keywords in the body text
use the keywords in your link text

Meta tags are used for labeling only, not for ranking. Do not obsess over meta tags. Links are best used for closely themed sites - do not link unscrupulously. NEVER use hidden text, or an unweildly amount of tiny text on any page.

Results can take up to 3 months.
