I used to use pay to play for any of our new sites, for about the first month, until the organic results would kick-in... these 'kick-in' times are really now increasing to a couple of weeks and given that there is such a high rate of false/fraud click throughs; I now see no point in PPC.
Anyone see the article, don't remember where I saw it - maybe Time magazine, that talked about the click fraud centers in India - people are paid by your competitors to sit, all day, and click on your ads to run out your ad budget!!!
I did give the new MSN a whirl and wow what a screwball rip-off that almost was...
As a test I started with low budgets, set to stop daily and was very specific in selecting times and days to run the ppc ads; that I know statistically work best for my sales and ads - in this case it was to run them Mon-Fri 6am - 6pm.
They started the ads as scheduled - (their scheduling and listing selections are awesome, if only they worked right) - the money was gone instantly and no sales... this isn't entirely uncommon... but they didn't stop there... they ran out the budget and kept going so by the end of the day I owed them 4X what the daily budget was! They continued running the ads WELL AFTER the times to stop running the ads (if in fact I had daily budget left) and ran them for an entire 24 hours what was to be $50 was now me owing MSN $300 - I was rather pissed as you can probably imagine.
They were really receptive and helpful via their basically no-wait toll free number though and agreed to give me the money back, all but the initial $50
So... I tried again - lol - yeah I'm a glutton for punishment apparently...
Basically the same thing happened again except this time I started the campaign... no sales... paused the campaign halfway through the day and went about my way... a few hours later my campaign magically unpaused itself, something I didn't notice for a couple of days, and now I owed MSN $400something instead of $50 - crazy huh!!
Again they erased the charges short of the $50 again and that's about all I have to say about that :)
well maybe a little more...
I'm sure they'll get these 'horrid bugs' fixed if they've not already.
The people at MSN adcenter are really awesome though - like I said no wait toll free help, they're friendly, they get things resolved quickly, and they even call you back! |
