I read in a marketing ebook that Dmoz was the most important search engine to be listed in because eventually all others would list you just by being on Dmoz. Is that true? 8)

The open directory is not as important as it once was. Google now barely uses it for ranking purposes.

I agree with Admin - I would still submit yourself to DMOZ though - it can take up to a year to get your site listed with them - may not help your site much but it's not going to hurt it either.

great - I would submit to as many of the directories as possible - joeant, gimsy, zeal, etc..
check here and submit away:
http://dmoz.org/Business/Resources/Search_Engines/
and
http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Search_Engines/

To limit the spam that can be increased by directory listings I would use like a hotmail or yahoo email address as the submit address. You would have to check this mail not too long after doing the submissions as some require you to verify your submission before it actually goes through...
